My Approach to Helping
It is so important to have a space where you can tell the truth, even if you aren't sure what the truth really is. I create a space in my office (or online) where you can be completely honest. Whether that is in individual, couples, or family therapy.
Meet Athena McCullough
I am a wife and mother. I understand how messy and beautiful both parenting and marriage can be. I am a lover of coffee and the mountains of Colorado. I have made Colorado my home for almost 15 years and love living life here. My family loves camping and hiking.
About My Approach
I come from a family systems approach to therapy. We live in relationship to the people around us and are influenced by them just as we influence them. So much of our ability to relate to others was ingrained in us by our family as we grew up. These could be both helpful and hurtful skills. I explore these relationships and help my clients uncover why they experience life as they do and how they can reach their goals. Each person has a story that has shaped who they are today. I love exploring that story with my clients.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC). I have a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and extensive post-graduate training in marriage and family therapy. While I focus on families, I also work with individuals and couples to overcome anxiety, depression, career worries, trauma, and addiction.
I focus on the family as a whole to help with issues like behavior problems, parenting, co-parenting, blended families, and communication problems. Utilizing a strengths-based approach, I work to ensure that each family member feels heard and understood while also working towards the unity of the family as a whole. I want to journey alongside your family through both the difficult times and the times of celebration. I work with my clients to clarify their goals and help them to explore all the options available to them.

Finding a therapist that is a good fit for you is the most important part of therapy! If you don't fell comfortable and heard with your therapist, it will be very hard to engage in the work to reach your goals.
