My Approach to Helping
I am a psychotherapist licensed in Maryland and the District of Columbia and have been providing services to individuals and families for over 26 years. My areas of expertise include individual and family recovery from such difficulties as complex trauma, depression, anxiety, divorce, or health-related issues, as well as a specialization in the treatment of adolescents, families, and adults who struggle with eating disturbances. In addition, I provide consultations on parenting, managing life with adolescents, or reducing family conflict. My practice includes assessments, consultations, or ongoing therapy, depending on your needs.
My style is very interactive, warm, and direct, with an emphasis on making sure the therapy is a good fit for you. I was trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and family systems, with additional certificates in trauma-informed treatment and the treatment of complex trauma. It is my personal philosophy that every session should feel productive, with the immediate goal of experiencing relief from your symptoms or distress.
In my specialized work with eating disorders, I will often use techniques based in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to challenge destructive thinking patterns that lead to symptomatic behaviors. If appropriate, I incorporate families into treatment and am trained in the"Maudsley" or family-based approach (FBT) to treating Anorexia Nervosa. However, there is no such thing as "one type of therapy fits all" so we will work together to tailor your therapy to your personal needs and goals.
I pride myself on my recovery rates and will work tirelessly with you to achieve that goal. Please call or email me for an individual or family therapy consultation today.
