My Approach to Helping
Everyone has a struggle or suffering of some kind or an area of our life we can improve upon. My specialty is working with middle-aged and older adults who are navigating grief and loss, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions. I'm aware of the many issues that older adults and their families face throughout the aging process.
I bring 40+ years of clinical experience to the table in helping you to improve your emotional wellbeing. In addition to private practice and nearly 18 years as a hospice social worker, I've taught college courses on gerontology and edited and published a book. I am also one of the very few therapists in the country to be board-certified (BCD) by the American Board of Clinical Social Work.
Let's work together to help you to move your life in a positive direction and achieve emotional wellbeing!
More Info About My Practice
My practice is entirely remote, making it easy for us to connect no matter where you are. Sessions are conducted remotely via video or by phone, from the convenience of your home or another location where you're comfortable. Video sessions allow us to hear each other and see each other's faces and body language, and in my experience works just as well as in-person therapy.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I'm most skilled in helping seniors and their families with issues that arise as we get older, such as grief, loss, and bereavement; anxiety and depression; changing circumstances; and family relationship problems. I have considerable experience working with people with dementia (Alzheimer's, Lewy Body). As someone who has lost a spouse and an adult child, I also have compassion for and insight into those situations. Call me for a free 30-minute consultation to see if I'd be a good fit for you.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
When choosing a therapist, it's important to find someone who you're comfortable talking to. Good therapists are good listeners. It's also important to find someone with the clinical experience and the life experience to help you through your situation. In the 40+ years that I have been working as a therapist, I've worked with older adults as a young person, a middle-aged person, and now as a senior myself, picking up life insights at each stage.
