My Approach to Helping

I offer a tailored approach to treatment that is goal oriented and rooted in Mindfulness Integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am a believer of mind-body integration and focus on a holistic model of health and wellness to help empower you to overcome presenting challenges. I use humor and probing questions during our time together and encourage clients to explore hisher authentic self to better understand, manage, and resolve challenges in hisher life to achieve balance and harmony. A client can expect to have a safe space to gain insight and knowledge, and to ultimately heal. I will ask you to commit to challenging yourself, and if you choose to do this, I will help guide you through making the necessary changes in your life to see results.

More Info About My Practice

Andrea is a LPCC specializing in working with adults and adolescents with Anxiety Disorders and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Andrea earned her BA in Psychology from Emory University in Atlanta and a dual masters degree in Psychological Counseling at Columbia University in New York. She completed her fieldwork at the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy in Manhattan, NY. Andrea is able to assess, diagnose, and treat social, psychological, and behavioral disorders and illnesses.

Andrea is also a therapeutic yoga teacher and offers this complement to therapy. Clients have the opportunity to learn about meditation and create balance in the body by connecting one's breath to movements to build physical and mental strength and flexibility. Practicing yoga provides space for one to let go of the ego and develop a mindset of acceptance. By honoring your body and mind in this way, you are able to connect, heal, and change. Each person's experience is unique and constantly evolving, and yoga provides you with a safe harbor to reconnect with your true nature and find stillness.

My Role as a Therapist

I am trained in helping people identify, understand, and modify their belief systems in order to function more effectively and live more satisfying lives. I am here to provide a space for you to feel supported and encourage you to explore outside of your comfort zone. Depending on the presenting issue, some sessions will be more structured than others, and occasionally tasks will be assigned between sessions to help you reach your goals.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

Since no person is the same, I think suggesting there is a designated amount of time one "should" be in therapy would be a disservice and misleading. Typically a client attends a 50 minute session once a week until that person feels better able to understand and manage the presenting issue. Then, sessions are usually bi-weekly or monthly until the therapist's support is no longer needed. A course of treatment can last anywhere from 3 months to a year or more.
