My Approach to Helping
Amna Adamjee is a Mental Health Counselor (MHC-LP) who is passionate about taking an
interdisciplinary approach to counseling in order to meet each individual client’s needs. Her practice draws upon utilizing principles of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Motivational Interviewing in order to allow her clients to collaborate with her to engage with, identify, and explore their thought patterns, behaviors and emotions. She also utilizes a Person-Centered approach to provide an empathic safe space for her clients to be able to feel comfortable to establish rapport with her.
Amna believes that establishing rapport and allowing her clients to feel comfortable with her fosters a deeper level of self-awareness and personal growth by improving their relationship with themselves as well as with others. She believes in empowering her clients so that they are able to feel more in control of their lives.
Amna’s previous clinical work includes working in schools, rehabilitation clinics, non-government organizations, and outpatient clinics. She has worked with children with learning and behavioral difficulties, as well as adults and seniors with Depression, Anxiety, Domestic Violence, Interpersonal, Relationship, and Substance Abuse issues. She has also worked with high school seniors and conducted career-counseling assessments to help young adults map future opportunities.
Amna received her M.A. and Ed.M. in Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University.
