Do you struggle in social interactions? Do you have difficulty understanding other people?s emotions? My practice focuses on helping individuals who feel anxious, odd, or out of place to connect with the relationships and activities that are most important to them.

I specialize in helping children and adults who are dealing with social anxiety, challenging life transitions, and conditions such as Asperger's/high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder to learn the skills they need to thrive. If you feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable in your own skin at times, I want to help you to harness your existing strengths and develop additional coping tools and communication skills.

My approach relies strongly on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (or ACT), a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that focuses on interacting more flexibly with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. ACT can also help you in taking other people?s perspectives, developing mindfulness skills, and choosing behaviors consistent with your goals even in challenging situations.

Seeking out therapy can be daunting. Please feel free to touch base with any questions you may have about the process. We will work together to create a treatment plan to help you achieve your goals.

More Info About My Practice

My Noe Valley office is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I am available to see adults, children, couples, and families.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Many of us were raised with the harmful idea that displays of emotion are abnormal, unhelpful, or weak. However, in my practice I am often reminded of how much strength it takes for people to face the uncomfortable thoughts and feelings that have been a source of so much discomfort. I am also awed by how empowering it is for people when they take the difficult step of facing these challenges head on.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

We know that, by far, the most important predictor of how well therapy works is the alliance between client and therapist. You should be able to find a therapist with whom you feel safe, comfortable, and respected. I am hopeful that my practice will be a excellent match for your needs. I am also committed to helping you find a therapist who is a better fit if for some reason I am not ideally suited to help you address your presenting concerns.
