My Approach to Helping

I enjoy working side by side with clients to help them achieve meaningful change in their lives in a way that is consistent with their unique cultural and life experiences. I draw from various therapeutic modalities, like Cognitive-Behavioral, Person-Centered, Family Systems, and others in order to help my clients accomplish their goals in treatment. I firmly believe that the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist can be a powerful agent of change, and I am deeply interested in getting to know each of my clients for who they are independent of whatever circumstances may bring them into my office.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Therapy can help by providing you with a safe and comfortable space to express yourself and explore changes you'd like to make that could benefit your life. Therapy can be a place of healing from past experiences that have left you hurting and in pain, a place to understand and cope with your current circumstances, and a place to explore and develop future goals and plans. I believe that you are the expert in your life and I will do my best to work with you to uncover the strengths, values, and qualities you already possess in order to help you develop the skills and tools you need so that you can make decisions in your life and to create change that is meaningful to you.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

I believe that therapy can have a significant impact on one's ability to manage the many challenges that come with living in today's complicated world. I see my role as therapist as that of a guide to help you sort through your previous experiences, current situation, and future goals in order for you to achieve change in a way that is meaningful for you. Therapy can be tremendously challenging, and it is a privilege for me to have the opportunity to work alongside you through this process.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

The experience of therapy is different for everyone. Perhaps you've tried it in the past and had a negative experience, or maybe you've been on the fence for a long time but are unsure whether this is something you want to try. One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a therapist is how comfortable you feel with them. It's completely understandable for there to be some discomfort during your first appointment, especially since you're talking about deeply personal issues with someone you've only just met. There are many different approaches to therapy, and many different types of people who work as therapists. Factors like cost, location, therapeutic orientation (the therapist's approach to treatment), level of experience, and education are all important factors to consider when finding a provider. But ultimately, the most important factor in the success of your work in therapy will be the relationship you have with your therapist and how comfortable you feel eventually getting to a place where you can be vulnerable enough to develop that trust.
