Self-compassion is the basis of being healthy and whole. When we don't know how to love ourselves, problems develop in every area of our lives: difficulty communicating with others, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, trying to please everyone except yourself, depression, anxiety, anger outbursts, addictions of all kinds, identity problems, conflict, and general confusion about what you really want. Therapy can also address wounds from trauma, teach more adaptive ways of thinking and help you find healthier and more effective ways to cope with things we can't change or control in life.

My Role as a Therapist

Most people have times in life when we get overwhelmed and confused by the changes or events we experience, whether through trauma or loss. Even good changes can be difficult to navigate. When that happens, even when surrounded by people who care, sometimes we feel obligated to keep up appearances of being happy, strong, and able to do it on our own.

A good therapist is supportive, non-judgmental, and helps you understand yourself more clearly. Clients often tell me that talking in therapy gives them insight and new perspectives that guide them to solutions and increased confidence. I am here to help navigate through difficult times and emotions. When I'm doing a good job, I am able to help people understand and accept themselves more fully.

When we shine light by talking about things that are frightening, we increase our ability to face situations and the problems lose their power over us. No therapist can do the work for you, but I love helping people face difficult, painful experiences and find the way through to the other side. The journey is not always be easy, but it helps when you are not alone.
