My Approach to Helping

Everyone struggles sometimes, but we find ourselves struggling most of the time, many people do not seek out the help they need to move through their difficulties. Coming this far in your search for a counselor shows you are ready to move forward on your journey toward healing. I respect just how difficult it is to take those first steps and as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, I want to help you overcome whatever obstacles you have been experiencing in your life.

Many years of experience as a counselor have taught me the importance and value of using a collaborative approach to the healing process. Above all, I respect you as the expert of your own life. Together, in a safe and supportive environment, we will identify and explore areas in need of evolving, healing or balancing. I will help you uncover the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and most importantly, move you toward regaining the balance and wellness in your life you deserve.

My Therapy Focus

My focus in counseling is to zero in on what is going on in a client's life, relationships, thoughts, feelings or behaviors and help them discover ways to evolve from where they are, confront or work with what areas need healing to move forward or identify what needs to be balanced or counterbalanced to help them live their lives more authentically.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

I think one of the most important factors for choosing a therapist is to find someone you feel comfortable with. Counselors are individuals and you may not connect with the first one you meet or like their therapeutic approach. Keep looking until you find someone you feel will support you and also challenge you. Starting the counseling process can be scary, but if you find the right counselor, you will never feel alone on the journey.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

When we are born, life doesn't present us or our caregivers a handbook describing the best ways to help us grow and develop as unique individuals with our own set of needs. As a result, we move through our days navigating our relationships and obstacles in the best way we can. The thing is, as we are developing, we create certain ways of coping or thinking to deal with what life is throwing at us. Some are helpful and some end up being hurtful. Often, when those situations or relationships are no longer present, the ways we learned to cope no longer work for us. Here is where we find ourselves feeling stuck, overwhelmed or struggling in our present lives. That's where counseling comes in. Together with a counselor, we have the opportunity to develop a personalized "handbook" for finally understanding and dealing with our emotions, thinking in a more effective manner, living more true to who we really are, and teaching others how to treat us. Does going to counseling mean you are weak or flawed? No, it really means you are courageous.
