My Approach to Helping

Calling all sensitive hearts. It is no surprise so many of us struggle with mental health. We live in a social, economic system built for profit. Not for people, life, or health. If you cannot bear the insanity, cruelty, barbarity of our society and those who run it, you are not alone. Until we end capitalism, settler colonialism, and global imperialism, we must care for each other as best we can.
That’s where I come in. I dream of the day when healthcare is free and accessible to all. Health and healing are human rights and should be integral parts of our lives and communities. However, while we operate in this system, counseling can make a huge difference.
While I engage in activism outside of therapeutic work, I hold a systems lens in my counseling. I use a combination of mindfulness, somatic (body), attachment or relationship-based approaches such as IFS (Internal Family Systems) to work in the present moment for deep healing and transformation, while also using approaches like DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) to teach practical skills & tools for daily life. I always look for the strengths and resilience in my clients, supporting the development of a secure, positive sense of self, and strong, healthy relationships in their communities. I support my clients to resolve trauma, liberate and love more of who they really are, and live lives more aligned with what matters most to them. We can thrive, despite it all, together.

More Info About My Practice

This is a time of undeniable crises. There is overwhelming loss, injustice, inequity, hatred, fear, insecurity. Traumatic stress, anxiety, despair, rage, loneliness, fear, hopelessness, panic, depression, stuckness, shame, relationship conflict ETC are all normal responses to the world we live in. AND, you can get relief. There is also beauty, magic, love, connection, resiliency, and joy that is possible here. I have many years of experience supporting people to heal and thrive, and would be honored to be with you in this time.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

"It's not what's wrong with you, it's what happened to you." So often mental disorders are natural responses to trauma, and a world full of so much violence. Disorders also come from genetics, and a mental health diagnosis can be validating and empowering. I can attest to treatment leading to improvements in daily functioning, relationships & quality of life.
