That is because negative moods, thoughts and behaviors are powerful and can be overwhelming to the point of interfering with daily functioning. Helping people understand why they experience negative thoughts and feelings can enable them to create change more effectively. Using cognitive-behavioral methods to focus both on short-term symptoms and long-term factors underlying their issues and their behaviors people can learn to regain balance & restore control in their lives.
