My Approach to Helping
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who values the opportunity to connect deeply with other humans and help with their journey of healing and feeling most authentically themselves. My passion and experience lie in working with individuals, couples, and groups of diverse ethnicities, races, nationalities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. For the past 10 years, my clinical experiences have ranged from private practices and college counseling centers to an outpatient clinic and a state hospital. I bring warmth, acceptance, trust, and empathy into my work.
I believe that in our early life or in times of great difficulty or trauma we do what is necessary to survive, and while these tactics were once essential for us to cope, they can come to no longer serve us. I help clients uncover how these tactics they once needed to employ may now be blocking their full aliveness, connection to their emotional experience, and ability to form deep, fulfilling, and sustained relationships with others. I accompany clients in unpacking beliefs about themselves they may have internalized and help them learn to relate to their thoughts differently. I support clients in processing emotions they may never have previously felt safe enough to explore, which allows for the discovery of more nourishing ways of relating to themselves and others.
I have a passion for couples and group therapy, and have advanced training in Emotion Focused Couples Therapy & Interpersonal Process Group. Group therapy is one of the most powerful modalities to work through barriers in connecting with ourselves and others. I am currently forming two interpersonal process groups. See description below:
The group is focused on understanding the interpersonal patterns, behaviors, and beliefs that get in the way of having the closeness, intimacy, and connection you are seeking in all areas of your life. The group helps you make here-and-now emotional self-disclosures by putting your thoughts and feelings within yourself AND toward others into words as you become aware of them in the moment, as well as learning to give and receive interpersonal feedback. Through the group process we work towards resolving long-standing barriers to intimacy, generating new ways of relating to oneself and others that create more nourishing relationships, and feeling most authentically yourself.
