My Approach to Helping
The decision to enter into therapy can be unsettling, but can be life changing. There are times we may need to process our experiences with another to help identify underlying issues causing certain thoughts, emotions and behaviors. We may need to address unresolved issues from our past to become more self-aware, to create clarity and peace of mind. We may also need to change our perception because our thoughts influence the world we see. These changes are represented in my favorite quote by Maya Angelou, “I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.”
I have worked with adolescents, adults, LGBTQ+ community, couples and families for over 10 years. I have also worked with individuals who have suffered from trauma and struggled with their spiritual beliefs. I am fully trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which can help one heal from distressing life experiences. EMDR helps unwind the nervous system from traumatic or painful memories, allowing for organic experiences of clarity and contentment.
My approach to counseling utilizes different disciplines with an emphasis on Cognitive Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy and Mindfulness. I am able to provide you with a safe and supportive environment where you can share your emotions, beliefs and process through your experiences. Walk and Talk Therapy can also be included to gain the benefits of nature and exercise.
