My Approach to Helping
As we move through the stages of life, there may be changes that cause us to be faced with unexpected challenges. These are times it may help to process our experiences with another to decrease emotional distress or to explore different options we may have. Sharing with another may also help us to identify underlying issues causing certain thoughts, emotions, and behaviors or reactions we may be experiencing.
I work with individuals and couples who are struggling with a variety of challenges including relationship issues, stress due to life transitions, trauma, anxiety, grief and depression. I also work with at-risk youths and the challenges they may be facing. My approach to counseling utilizes evidence-based treatments, which includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the Gottman Method Couples Therapy which is based on four decades of research and is very effective in helping couples achieve healthy and lasting relationships. Other methods may help with other types of relationships we are in, such as friendships, family members, our Higher Power, those we work with and those in our social groups and communities. It is especially important to work on the relationship we have with ourselves because that can affect our relationships with others.
I have worked with adolescents, adults, LGBTQ+ community, couples and families for 10+ years. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which can help one heal from distressing life experiences.
Walk and Talk Therapy can also be included to gain the benefits of nature and exercise. I am able to provide you with a safe and supportive environment where you can share and process through your experiences - please let me know if I can answer any questions you may have.
**I was also raised speaking English and Portuguese and understand cultural diversity - \'Falo português e ficaria honrada em atender você e sua família\'.
