My Approach to Helping

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado and Missouri. I have a doctoral-level education in counseling education and supervision, a master's degree in mental health counseling, and a graduate certificate in gender studies. My clinical training is primarily in eating disorders and sexual concerns. I have experience treating adolescents, adults, and couples from diverse backgrounds and with a range of mental health concerns. My primary interest is working with individuals with concerns related to body image, sexuality (the umbrella term), gender identity, intimacy, and eating disorders.

I am the President of the Association of Counseling Sexology and Sexual Wellness and co-leader of the interest network, Sexual Wellness in Counseling. I am a professional member of the American Counseling Association and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. I am a board-certified member of the National Board of Certified Counselors. In addition to my licenses, I continue to learn by attending national and regional conferences, keeping up with current therapy research, and seeking supervision. I am working toward a certification in sex therapy from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists and is supervised by Dr. Neil Cannon.

I came into this field because of my genuine interest in helping others find balance in life, suffer less, and problem solve more efficiently. Additionally, I am pleased and honored to offer a safe space to mental health professionals of all kinds. I have provided counseling to other mental health professionals for several years, and believe I can be a place of refuge and respite for the mental health professionals in the Denver area.

More Info About My Practice

Brightside Counseling Services, LLC. is a group network practice. We believe that everyone has the innate capacity for personal growth, and supporting you in facing what is difficult in your life and within yourself right now is what we do. We help individuals and couples foster a healthier understanding of themselves and their emotional world. It is our job to assist in creating a place of peace, love and acceptance. Clients comprise of all ages, cultural, racial, and economic backgrounds, as well as disabilities.

Communication problems, sex, anger, even illness can contribute to problems in a marriage or relationship. To manage conflicts and stress, couples sometimes turn to marriage counseling or couples counseling to help heal the relationship. Marriage counseling, also called couples therapy or relationship counseling, helps couples, married or not, understand and resolve conflicts and improve their relationship. Marriage counseling gives couples the tools to communicate better, negotiate differences, problem solve and even argue in a healthier way. When couples enroll in marriage counseling, they are able to share their thoughts and express themselves in a safe, controlled environment. This allows both people to communicate more effectively, and the counselor can also give advice on how to heal and become stronger in the relationship with understanding and awareness of the other person??s attitude and feelings toward these challenging situations. Brightside Counseling Services can help you through your relationship concerns and provide you with a new sense of excitement and rebuild your intimacy.

We have experience working with children and adolescent and have training in play therapy. We can help children learn social skills as well as help them deal with emotional problems. With children, their world is far different than ours. What we think is nothing may mean the world to them and it is important to us to help them learn to express their feelings while understanding them as well.
