Neuroscience advancements help us understand how and why people change, and the foundation for brain-based therapy comprises neuroscience, attachment theory, and evidence-based treatment. This new therapy model identifies both the most relevant aspects of theoretical psychology and those that may be counter-productive. In brain-based therapy, the therapeutic process provides a way to rewire the brain to effect mood and behavior change.

This web conference will look at the use of brain-based psychotherapy to enrich treatment outcomes with a variety of different populations. Participants will examine the role of the brain in people's moods, memories, and behaviors and evaluate the latest research on the counter-therapeutic nature of some traditional models of psychology. By combining attachment theory, neuroscience, and evidence-based treatment, participants will be able to apply an effective treatment for people experiencing conditions such as anxiety, posttraumatic stress, depression, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors. Participants will develop a new approach for educating people to enhance and understand treatment goals.

This web conference is beginning instructional level and designed to help clinicians:

  1. Describe how brain activity affects people’s moods;

  2. Explain how chronic stress impairs memory;

  3. Analyze and assess how meditation can affect the brain;

  4. Apply brain-based therapy to treat depression, anxiety, and trauma;

  5. Discuss how brain therapy can be used to educate and motivate people to change.

Event Reviews from Members

It is difficult to say what was the "most" useful piece, as the workshop was very comprehensive, packed with lots of information. I will probably utilize the extensive handout often, as a reference for work with clients who are diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and ADHD. - Catherine Gruener, LCPC

Dr. Arden achieved his primary goal: he did a great job of connecting brain anatomy/processes (as now understood through neuroscience) with therapeutic efficacy. - Wesley M. Bowman, MSEd, LPCC
