People can become stuck with the issues they face in their career, family, and life in general. Sometimes they are stuck because their situations are highly complex, or they may be paralyzed by fear. Unfortunately, certain elements of standard talk therapy can inadvertently promote stuck mindset and behavior rather than alleviate it. When clinicians over-focus on the individual in therapy and their problems, or on the dynamics that initially led to the problem, they may disempower the individual and reinforce their feelings of hopelessness.

In this two-hour continuing education web conference, Dr. Lani Nelson-Zlupko will explain why clinicians need tools to help individuals in therapy externalize their problems. She will identify empirically-backed strategies for forward momentum and share decades of experience in research and diverse clinical settings as well as recent findings in neuroscience and biochemistry.

This web conference is designed to educate clinicians about the common factors contributing to stuck behavior as well as outline effective strategies for forward momentum. Dr. Nelson-Zlupko will highlight identifiable pitfalls across a wide dimension of common life problems involving relationships, health, parenting, addiction, or finances that can make matters worse. She will describe ways to avoid these pitfalls and share strategies that help people face their problems and move forward.

This intermediate instructional level web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. Identify common mindsets and behavior patterns in stuck individuals with diverse life problems and diagnoses.

  2. Discuss the neuroscience and biochemical processes that contribute to feeling and staying stuck.

  3. Recognize how standard talk therapy can prevent stuck individuals from moving forward as well as contribute to keeping them stuck.

  4. Identify common life problem pitfalls that can exacerbate feelings of being stuck.

  5. Apply effective strategies for helping stuck individuals move forward.
