Individuals who have experienced trauma can be easily triggered and have difficulty changing their thoughts or behaviors. This may cause them to become frustrated in long-term therapy when they feel they are not making progress or improving. For some of these individuals, talk therapy alone may not suffice. Other trauma treatment modalities can help boost the effectiveness and shorten the duration of treatment.

In this two-hour continuing education web conference, Yudit Maros, LMFT, will discuss treating trauma with Brief, Solution-Oriented Trauma Resolution (BSOTR). BSOTR was first developed in the 1980s by Dr. Robert Schwartz and is a combination of Brief, Solution Oriented Therapy; Neuro-Linguistic Programming; hypnosis; and Narrative Psychotherapy. It is a one- to two-session intervention that addresses trauma on the somatic level, clearing the way for new cognitive and behavioral learning.

Yudit will explain BSOTR's protocol designed to help individuals learn and practice new coping mechanisms. She will discuss clinical skills that help relieve trauma from the body’s memory without the risk of re-traumatization. Yudit will also describe how this method creates a blueprint for positive self-parenting in the future. BSOTR can be used with adults and children in addition to being incorporated into the process of couples’ therapy when there is a history of trauma.

This introductory instructional level web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. Describe the value of body-centered trauma work in therapy.

  2. Discern the foundations of trauma assessment.

  3. Summarize the therapeutic steps involved in BSOTR.

  4. Identify strategies for replacing traumatic memories and body programming with positive alternatives.

  5. Create a BSOTR Resource State with individuals in therapy.
