In order for mental health practitioners to help people in therapy with money issues, they must be able to address their own beliefs and behaviors with money. This Web Conference, presented by Judith Gruber, LCSW, CCEP, will use an experiential and conceptual framework, exploring money from a broader perspective. A person's options for financial well-being are widely expanded when money is conceptualized not simply as negotiable currency but as a dynamic force in one’s life that correlates directly to their personal intentions--both negative and positive.

In this presentation, Judith will offer clinicians skills to assess the personal relationships of people in therapy and their experiences with money, teach ways to create a positive intention, and provide practical tools to help individuals transform negative, self-defeating behavior patterns into positive energy. In order to create financial health and well-being, people are encouraged to explore and expand their thinking and behavior with money, such as underearning, overspending, incurring debt, compulsive spending, and/or acting obsessive-compulsively with money.

The material in this Web Conference can assist mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, alcohol and drug educators, social workers, psychologists, and human service professionals to create a balanced and healthy relationship with money--for people in therapy and themselves.

This introductory web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. Describe how the energy and dynamics of money affects us on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels as well as how to shift from an unhealthy to a healthy relationship on each level;

  2. Identify how our beliefs, misconceptions, and attitudes about money help to create negative and addictive behavior patterns;

  3. Explain how to make the connection between our images about money and the early memory that helped create our attitudes and beliefs about money;

  4. Explore the dynamics and impact of positive and negative intentions;

  5. Identify common money personality types and how to create new attitudes and actions for renewal, change, and growth;

  6. Describe the principles of gratitude as a tool to develop and use our minds to cultivate a more balanced and healthy relationship with money;

  7. List specific tools and techniques to help those in treatment understand how to make conscious and informed choices on a daily basis.
