Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) builds upon the repertoire of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and allows clinicians to engage clients with acceptance-based practices and skill-building. Clinicians can enhance their therapy skills by enriching their understanding of DBT as well as gaining proficiency in applying DBT-informed interventions.

In this two-hour continuing education web conference, Andrew Bein, PhD, LCSW will present a trauma-informed Wise Mind model that clinicians have effectively used across a spectrum of client diagnoses. Dr. Bein will present elements designed to help clients develop compassionate self-care skills. Dr. Bein will also discuss how to help clients mindfully address reactive and distressing emotions and locate sources of resilience in challenging times.

This introductory instructional level web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. Apply a dialectic approach to psychotherapy.

  2. Explain how a traditional cognitive approach can be invalidating to clients.

  3. Assist clients to build emotion regulation and resilience through teaching and embodying radical acceptance.

  4. Describe the merit of working with a simplified Wise Mind model.

  5. Summarize the benefits of using DBT for trauma-informed work.
