Following a traumatic or victimizing experience, many people “bounce back,” evidencing a high level of mitigating resilience, while others exposed to the same or similar incidents develop posttraumatic stress (PTSD), complex PTSD, and co-occurring disorders. In this 2-hour live web conference, Dr. Meichenbaum will examine various risk and protective factors that influence peoples’ responses to trauma and discuss their significance in designing appropriate treatment. He will introduce the Case Conceptualization Model for therapeutic decision-making, and offer specific interventions to bolster individuals’ resilience in the six domains of well-being: physical, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, spiritual, and interpersonal. Dr. Meichenbaum will also discuss the nature and neurobiology of resilience using a constructive narrative treatment perspective.

This intermediate instructional level web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. Recognize and assess for factors that distinguish those who evidence resilience versus those who develop PTSD and related comorbid disorders following exposure to traumatic and victimizing experiences.

  2. Utilize a Case Conceptualization Model of risk and protective factors that informs assessment and treatment decision-making.

  3. Identify interventions to bolster resilience in six domains: physical, interpersonal, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and spiritual.

  4. Describe the nature and neurobiology of resilience using a constructive narrative treatment perspective.
