Hardwiring Happiness

Presented by Rick Hanson, PhD on 07-11-2014 at 9 a.m. Pacific to 11 a.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Eastern)

The brain is shaped by the mind as neurons fire together and wire together. Inner strength and feelings of self-worth, kindness, motivation, and resilience result from positive experiences, yet the brain's negativity bias—developed to help our ancestors survive—dismisses many positive experiences. This negativity bias is at the root of many cases of interpersonal conflict, depression, and anxiety, and it can inhibit psychotherapeutic progress.

This presentation will reveal Rick Hanson's four-step HEAL method to help people develop lasting neural resources from everyday experiences. You will learn how to lower anxiety, create focused attention, build confidence, and ultimately, hardwire happiness in the brain.

This web conference is intermediate instructional level and designed to help clinicians:

  1. Discuss how the three motivational systems of the brain evolved;
  2. Identify the Reactive and Responsive aspects of the brain;
  3. Describe how the negativity bias evolved in the brain;
  4. Teach people how to internalize positive experiences using the four HEAL steps;
  5. Utilize the HEAL steps for children and those who suffer from trauma.

Event Reviews from Members

Bravo! Clear and useful as well as thought provoking information! - Marcia Conley, MA, LPC

I was thrilled to be able to take a workshop from Rick Hanson through goodtherapy.org. The workshop was very comprehensive, melding anatomy and theory into application and process. There were a number of useful approaches discussed throughout the workshop that I can apply to my practice, and I look forward to learning and adapting more. Much appreciation. - Catherine Gruener, LCPC, NCC
