At this stage, a woman might start having irregular periods.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"%1.\" data-font=\"Calibri\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Menopause\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">occurs when a woman hasn\u2019t had a period in at least 12 months. On average, this occurs between the ages of 45 and 55.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"%1.\" data-font=\"Calibri\" data-listid=\"7\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Postmenopause\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">is the final phase of the process and describes women, transgendered men, and nonbinary individuals who have gone through menopause. After all, this is a major life transition; not everyone is willing to easily accept that they\u2019ve arrived at this moment in their lives. Unfortunately, research suggests that\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodtherapy.org\/blog\/study-explores-anxiety-among-postmenopausal-women-0207171\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">women with anxiety<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0can exacerbate the symptoms of menopause.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Further, women going through menopause are more likely to experience depression. In fact,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/mental-health-symptoms-menopause\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">one recent study<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0found that 60 percent of perimenopausal and menopausal women were experiencing anxiety, 60 percent were experiencing depression, and 80 percent had brain fog. The\u00a0remain\u00a020 percent, however, experience menopause\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodtherapy.org\/blog\/psychpedia\/menopause\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">moderately to severely<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, which may lead to other problems and require professional help.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">For example, some women going through menopause may develop a condition called menopausal psychosis. Women who\u2019ve been\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/funding\/grant-writing-and-application-process\/concept-clearances\/2020\/mood-and-psychosis-symptoms-during-the-menopause-transition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">diagnosed as schizophrenic<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0are perhaps most likely to see a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthywomen.org\/content\/article\/menopause-and-schizophrenia-connection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">resurgence<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0of that condition.
