Only 16 states list specific minimum age requirements for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodtherapy.org\/learn-about-therapy\/issues\/adoption\">adoption<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These states require the parents to be at least 18 years old:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Connecticut<\/li>\n<li>Kentucky<\/li>\n<li>Louisiana<\/li>\n<li>Montana<\/li>\n<li>New Jersey<\/li>\n<li>Tennessee<\/li>\n<li>Washington<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These states require the parents to be at least 21 years old:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Colorado<\/li>\n<li>Delaware<\/li>\n<li>Oklahoma<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These states require the parents to be at least 25 years old:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Georgia<\/li>\n<li>Idaho<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These states require the parents to be at least 10 years older than the adopted child (or 15 in Idaho&#8217;s case):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>California<\/li>\n<li>Georgia<\/li>\n<li>Idaho<\/li>\n<li>Nevada<\/li>\n<li>New Jersey<\/li>\n<li>South Dakota<\/li>\n<li>Utah<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No states have an upper age limit for adoptive parents. So long as you are physically stable enough to care for a child, you can adopt from a government agency.
