You is important.&#8221; Or, you could print out these nine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodtherapy.org\/blog\/psychpedia\/affirmations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">affirmations<\/a> and hang them around your home\u00a0or office, tape them on the dashboard of your car, or\u00a0commit them to memory to pull out during trying times.<\/p>\n<p>Affirmations are statements that reflect a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodtherapy.org\/blog\/psychpedia\/optimism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">positive outlook<\/a> on life, one&#8217;s abilities, one&#8217;s potential, and more. Because the verb &#8220;to affirm&#8221; means &#8220;to maintain as true&#8221; (Dictionary.com), affirmations inherently uphold truths. In other words, by repeating these phrases you aren&#8217;t teaching yourself anything new&#8212;you&#8217;re simply repeating and reinforcing\u00a0truths. Sometimes it&#8217;s difficult to remember that you\u00a0are\u00a0kind, smart, and important. You may need\u00a0to continue to tell yourself those things so your brain can recognize and accept them.<\/p>\n<p>Repeating affirmations can relieve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodtherapy.org\/learn-about-therapy\/issues\/anxiety\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anxiety<\/a>, ease day-to-day pressure and stress, and even have a positive effect on healing from other mental health issues, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodtherapy.org\/learn-about-therapy\/issues\/addictions-and-compulsions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">addiction<\/a>.
