GoodTherapy.org will be hosting a Twitter chat for the second time on December 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. Pacific. The theme of the December 11 discussion will be mental health concerns that accompany the holiday season, and we will be tweeting with the hashtag #WinterWellness. All are welcome to join! We will be asking pertinent questions related to the topic of mental health during the holidays, and we are eager to hear about your experiences with various aspects of maintaining wellness in the following situations:
- When family members visit, potentially posing problems
- When seasonal affective issues set in
- When added pressures like guests and meal planning get in the way of making time for yourself
- How you decompress when holiday stress is over
- Managing general stress and anxiety
- Coping with grief and loss during the holiday season
In September, we led a fruitful discussion about suicide prevention and were fortunate enough to have many voices chiming in about how we can improve care available to those who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts. For this conversation about well-being during the holidays, we hope to involve even more people and explore how to make this time of year more filled with joy, relaxation, and self-care. This is a great opportunity to use a social media platform to share your insight about mental health issues around the holidays and your tips and tricks for caring for one’s own needs during this time. It’s also your chance to learn from others about what works for them and what self-care they practice.
Social media present common platforms, and chats like these are far from trivial. Bringing minds together helps people feel less alone, helps build resources for people who need them, and slowly helps break down stigma by getting more people talking about mental health! We are excited to continue these efforts through our December 11 Twitter chat.
