Mental Health in Hurst

The police department in Hurst has partnered with two neighboring police departments to create the Hurst, Euless, and Bedford Community Mental Health Monitoring Model (HEB Model). The primary goal of the model is to minimize the reinstitutionalization of people with mental health concerns. As part of this effort, individuals arrested for minor offenses may be diverted to a hospital for treatment if they are experiencing mental health issues.

Under the HEB model, community members with mental health conditions are monitored by a mental health professional and a police officer who has received advanced training in mental health and crisis intervention. The HEB Model aims to provide mental health training for all officers employed by the three police departments. The training is designed to improve each officer’s ability to identify and interact effectively with people who are experiencing mental health challenges.
