Teaneck is a town in Bergen County, New Jersey. Hackensack Indians originally inhabited the area. Dutch colonists later settled the area in the 1600s. The town was incorporated in 1895. Teaneck was the first community in America to vote in favor of integrated schools. 

Teaneck has a population of 41,000 people. Fifty-six percent of adults age 25 or older have a bachelor’s degree. This percentage is significantly higher than the statewide rate (38%).

The ethnic composition of Teaneck is 45% white, 29% black, 17% Hispanic or Latinx, and 9% Asian. Foreign-born people make up 23% of the town’s population. Twenty-seven percent of residents have a native language that is not English.

People in Teaneck earn a mean annual wage of $43,800. The median household income is $101,100. The homeownership rate is 73%. Roughly 6% of residents live in poverty.
