Forty-three percent of residents speak a foreign language at home. More than 8,100 Spanish speakers, 5,200 Chinese speakers, and 1,300 Korean speakers live in Rockville.

Youth suicide is a growing issue in Montgomery County. A 2014 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states almost 16% of Montgomery County high school students seriously thought about committing suicide the previous year. Twelve percent of students in the county made a suicide plan in 2013.

In 2018, roughly 40 students met with public school representatives at the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville. The forum was organized in response to two student suicides in 2017. Students’ most common concerns included how to handle a school counselor who is not taking them seriously and what to do if a friend is considering suicide.
