Mental Health Statistics for Bethesda, MD

Designated as a region rather than a city, Bethesda is located in Montgomery County and home to over 60,000 residents. Within Montgomery County, 19% to 20.8% of residents did not report experiencing at least 28 out of 30 good mental health days, according to a 2010 survey. A 2015 Montgomery County Behavioral Health report shows there are approximately 43 outpatient mental health treatment facilities and around 15 residential treatment facilities in the county. 

In Montgomery County, up to 18.5% of the population was estimated to have experienced mental health issues in 2015. The age group with the highest prevalence of mental illness were ages 26-49, followed by ages 18-25. In 2013, 10.7% of youth in Montgomery County experienced a major depressive episode.
