Voice Dialogue is a fascinating therapeutic and coaching method that allows the person in therapy to safely enter deeply into the psyche and effect dynamic change. Co-created by psychologists Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone, Voice Dialogue is based on the premise that the human psyche is made up of innumerable discreet structures, sub-personalities, Inner Selves, or energy patterns. Voice Dialogue provides a structured pathway to direct communication with these diverse characters. During this guided dialogue, the person in treatment learns about those aspects of personality with which he/she has identified (Primary Selves) and becomes acquainted with the equal yet opposite sub-personalities that have been largely repressed (Disowned Selves). In this process, the individual gains a separate vantage point to observe both Inner Selves (for example, the Pleaser Self and the Selfish Self, or the Pusher/Achiever Self and the Being/Laid-Back Self). Voice Dialogue develops the conscious Choice-Maker, or Aware Ego Process. Rather than living from the reactive and habitual behaviors of the Primary Selves, the Aware Ego, from a more objective, detached perspective, learns to manage both the Primary and Disowned Selves in ways that are more effective, conscious, and authentic.
Clients find Voice Dialogue to be a very engaging process by which they gain self-knowledge and the skills to live and communicate with the totality of their being. They discover lost skills, talents, and emotions, and they learn to integrate these vital aspects into their lives. Voice Dialogue is very effective at resolving difficult life issues/conflicts, relationship issues, and professional dilemmas. It is used to heal trauma, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and many other presenting psycho-spiritual concerns.
Therapists trained in Voice Dialogue find that their practices are revitalized, their effectiveness is enhanced, the people they treat see dramatic results, and their own understanding of themselves is improved.
