Process-Focused Therapy: A Guide for Creating Effective Outcomes

Presented by Robert Taibbi, LCSW on 01-18-2019 at 9 a.m. Pacific (noon Eastern) to 11 a.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Eastern)

It is important to acknowledge multiple perspectives in process-focused therapy. For example, the common problems that may arise from faulty process, what the client cannot do, i.e. their stuckpoints. Another is the goal of therapy and sessions on helping clients correct their faulty process. Clinicians also need to find ways to maximize the effectiveness of sessions by avoiding replicating faulty process and problems within the session. Clinicians must intentionally create corrective emotional experiences so clients leave therapy feeling differently than when they came in.

In this 2-hour continuing education web conference, Robert Taibbi, LCSW will discuss four common stuckpoints for individuals and three common stuckpoints for couples and families in therapy. Robert will also discuss treatment maps for each of these problems so clinicians can hit the ground running in addressing these issues during sessions. He will explain how clinicians can identify what they want to do and not do in the session process to prevent replicating problems and to create positive experiences.

Finally, Robert will discuss therapy as performance, as well as tools and tips for maximizing the session process. Whether clinicians are relatively new to therapy, or seasoned professionals who want to look at process in a new way, this web conference may help them learn how to be more intentional and creative in their practice.

This introductory instructional level web conference is designed to help clinicians:

  1. List the four most common stuckpoints for individuals in therapy
  2. Describe the concept of emotional wounds
  3. Discuss how to use voice and gestures with the session process
  4. Describe how to use the technique of the ideal voice
  5. Describe two ways of helping supervisees manage session process
