Addictive disorders affect the lives of millions of Americans today. Despite the prevalence and pervasive toll addiction can take on the lives of individuals and their families, there continues to be a large treatment gap in the United States.
In this 2-hour web conference, Dr. Lori Ryland will outline what mental health professionals need to know about accessing effective addiction treatment. Dr. Ryland will review how addiction affects the brain, how stage of change and motivation affect prognosis, and how to maximize treatment using stage-matched interventions. Several of the behavior therapies used in other behavioral disorders have been demonstrated to be effective for addiction treatment including Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing/Motivational Enhancement Therapy. Medication-Assisted Treatment has also been demonstrated to be safe, cost-effective, reduce the risk of overdose, and improve several areas of functioning. Selecting appropriate treatment based upon individual assessment and working with payers to report and document medical necessity and least restrictive environment is a key role in navigating effective addiction treatment.
This introductory web conference is designed to help mental health clinicians:
