Embracing the Culturally Diverse: Applying Ethically Sound Approaches in Clinical Practice

We know that biases and barriers exist in access to client care which can negatively impact the client's ability to heal. In this 2-hour continuing education webinar, Latasha Matthews will highlight the importance of cultural humility and the ethical role mental health clinicians hold in providing compassionate care. She will outline approaches for ensuring goodness of fit when working with diverse clients and strategies for providing ethically sound services that protect and benefit both clinicians and the clinician's clients. This webinar is also designed to help mental health professionals take an introspective look at themselves and how their own values and worldviews can impact their work with diverse clients and populations.

This introductory ethics webinar is designed to help mental health clinicians:

1. Identify and examine how personal values impact their work with clients.
2. Define and explain cultural humility.
3. Analyze treatment modalities to ensure goodness of fit when working with diverse clients.
4. Examine common ethical dilemmas faced in working with diverse clients.
5. Identify how worldviews may influence the ability to understand, empathize, and work effectively with diverse clients.

Statement of program material’s accuracy, utility, and risks: The contents of this program are based in part on research by professionals in the field of Telemedicine and Mental Health.  The ACA Code of Ethics is referenced and used as the standard for all ethical material presented.  The speaker has interpreted various materials as well as consulted experts and other professionals in the field. The presentation encourages compliance with HIPPA, the ACA code of ethics, GDPR, and the CDC.  While the presenter has some knowledge of the laws, rules, and systems that govern compliance in regards to HIPPA, ACA, GDPR, and the CDC she is no expert and may not be aware of every principle, rule, and law. This program involves approaches for clinicians to use to stay in compliance and secure within the guidelines of the aforementioned organizations, however, this is in no way the definitive approach to remain in compliance and she is not responsible for any changes to the laws, misuse, or misappropriation of the material.
