The COVID-19 pandemic has created trying times for healthcare workers—behavioral health clinicians, dentists, rehab professionals, physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, hospital and clinic workers, public health personnel, pharmacists, emergency services personnel, and others. Both essential and non-essential workers may be dealing with overwhelming stress and frustration due to the unique, unprecedented pressures of the pandemic such as increased personal risk, limited resources, new workplace protocols, and/or the challenges of functioning outside of best practices. Many workers may be experiencing fear, anxiety, fatigue, sleep problems, overwhelming frustration, and other difficult mental health symptoms.
In this 2-hour continuing education webinar, Martha Teater will help mental health clinicians confront and mitigate their own COVID-19 stress by providing practical tools for staying well despite the circumstances. Martha will help participants gain insight into their own stress points. She will lead participants through the process of creating a stress-reduction plan for work and home to prevent or mitigate professional burnout.
Martha will also cover treatment strategies and tools clinicians can use in therapy with workers impacted by COVID-19 stress. She will discuss the causes and signs of COVID-19 stress as well as methods for developing tools to stay emotionally healthy in the face of pandemic stress.
This 2-hour introductory level web conference is designed to help clinicians:
Statement of program material's accuracy, utility, and risks: This program presents clinical information that combines established psychotherapeutic methods such as cognitive approaches and mindfulness tools. It is consistent with the ethics code of the American Psychological Association. This program discusses strategies for applying the methods taught in a clinically responsible manner, although the presenter may not know how to apply all principles discussed to every situation or person. A body of research surveyed in the program suggests that the methods are effective and safe. As always, however, the misapplication of psychotherapeutic interventions with mentally vulnerable populations can lead to harmful outcomes.
Declaration of conflicts of interest and commercial support: Martha Teater conducts trainings, provides clinical services, and has written books related to the content of this program.
