Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety and Depression

Presented by Philip Feldman, PhD, LCSW on 05-04-2023 at 9 a.m. Pacific (noon Eastern) to 11 a.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Eastern)

This 2-hour continuing education webinar for therapists will focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and highly effective clinical interventions for anxiety and depression. Dr. Philip Feldman will review topics including activating events, beliefs, and consequences, as well as ways to help clients start to challenge self-defeating, negative, catastrophic, and irrational thoughts. Dr. Feldman will address specific CBT interventions for anxiety and depression and share empirical evidence about the importance of CBT and its potential for positive outcomes.

This introductory level continuing education course is designed to help mental health professionals:

  1. List four empirically-validated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions to help depressed and anxious clients.
  2. Describe the connection between cognitions, emotions, and behaviors.
  3. Describe three specific clinical skills to use when engaging clients in the treatment process.
  4. List three realistic CBT treatment goals.
  5. Recall three ways to help clients cope with uncertainty.

Statement of program material’s accuracy, utility, and risks: Dr. Feldman has 30 years of clinical experience and has been using CBT successfully for a wide range of clients. The material in this course is based on empirically-validated research. Sources include work by Albert Ellis, Judith Beck, and Aaron Beck. The findings and clinical interventions are pragmatic and can be highly effective for clinicians who work with this population. A body of research surveyed in this course suggests that the methods are effective and safe for this population. However, misapplication of the concepts with various populations could lead to unintended outcomes.

Declaration of conflicts of interest and commercial support: None.
