My Approach to Helping
I primarily do individual counseling but also provide group and family therapy as well. My clients present with all sorts of issues that guys typically experience including low grades, anger management issues, anxiety, relationship problems, pornography struggles, depression, social skill deficits, Asperger's Disorder, and poor coping skills. I believe that my ability to establish positive rapport with my clients and my casual demeanor are primary to my ability to gain trust and aid in guiding my clients to personal growth.
My passion is working with high school and college age males. I enjoy helping teenagers and young adults improve their familial and personal relationships, increase their emotional and educational functioning, and experience spiritual and interpersonal growth.

More Info About My Practice
Sparrow House Counseling works with teens, adults, couples and families to provide counseling for all areas & phases of life. We are a safe place - a place to heal, recover, grow, reconnect, grieve, cope, and find joy. We seek to provide families with not only therapy, but with resources to connect them to their communities and give them multiple avenues of help. We work with area doctors, psychiatrists, churches, schools, educators, physical trainers, tutors, treatment centers and the like. We want to serve our clients in a manner of humility, grace, and excellence!

While we do not accept insurance, we do feel that our session fees are fair and affordable compared with other service providers in my area. We have multiple options for reduced fee therapy and are also able to take Visa and Mastercard for your convenience.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

One of the issues that I work with most frequently is apathy in young men. Sometimes this is seen in unmotivated high school students and sometimes it is underachieving young adults. For a number of years I worked with all of these clients individually, but recently I started a group to help work on this particular issue. What I was seeing with my high school clients was a difficulty recognizing apathy and identifying solutions in their own lives. When these same clients began attending group they were able to see little bits of themselves in the other members and through group accountability have begun to make subtle changes leading to small goal achievement.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love developing relationships and helping people. It is fun to me to see a new client begin to open up and share things as they begin to feel more and more comfortable in therapy. Most teenage guys I see come in with a chip on their shoulder and wall around their heart. Occasionally the people in their lives are getting to see their hearts but this typically occurs very rarely. What I love to see is when the therapeutic relationship helps them have a model for living life authentically and the confidence to let their walls down and share themselves with others.
