My Approach to Helping
The need for help is a deep instinct that dwells in each of us. There are times in our lives when we face challenges that leave us feeling overwhelmed, trapped, frustrated, confused, depressed, or anxious. When we reach this point, it is natural to look for direction and support from the people and world around us. If you are feeling at a loss, afraid or frustrated, or if you are struggling with a difficult change in your life, psychotherapy can help move you toward a greater sense of well-being and empowerment. Perhaps most importantly, it can help to make your life feel manageable, meaningful and interesting again. The key is not to hide from or avoid what needs to change.
I am a strong advocate for the innate strengths and capacities of my clients. I feel that you already have all the resources necessary for a rich life, but sometimes accessing these tools might need some nurturance and energy from both of us. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is an alliance to which we are both committed. I also believe, however, that the therapy is not restricted to the time you spend with me. Part of my work is to give you tools for pursuing your own growth, empowerment, and understanding. Some of these tools might include dream work, recommended reading, art, music, journaling, creative writing, guided meditations. Of course, it is up to you which of these tools you will use.
