My Approach to Helping

I try to get to the heart of the matter by focusing on what is most vivd and poignant in the here and now and on the meaning of that experience. Almost inevitably, what is linked to this process is cut off needs and desires which are not felt to be legitimate. I help my patients to reconnect with the longings that underlie states of depression and anxiety, and become manifested in a host of compulsive and harmful behaviors like drugs, alcohol. good, sex, shopping, exercising, keeping busy, etc. My approach to treatment is influenced by experiential, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral principles. It is also influenced by mother-infant reasearch and attachment theory.
