My Approach to Helping
Life moves quickly, and therapy can help you to slow down and reflect on your experience in ways that open up new possibilities. In this process, sometimes even the most troubling symptoms can contain important potential energy. As a therapist I work to strike a balance between creating enough space for reflection and participating actively in the process, including, when needed, telling you what I really think. Most of all, I have respect for the particular difficulties that you face and for the ways in which you have lived with them.
More Info About My Practice
I am a licensed clinical social worker with experience and post-graduate training, as well as warmth, empathy and humor. My work is informed by contemporary psychoanalytic theories and techniques because I believe these facilitate a process that addresses the deepest levels of distress and has the most lasting benefits. I am particularly adept at working with people in a creative process as well as with the effects of childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, destructive habits and addictions, and family/relationship issues. I am committed to maintaining a practice that represents a diversity of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, age and culture.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
Many people look for a therapist who is in their network for insurance coverage, but what they don't realize is that many therapists work "out-of-network" which allows for greater privacy for the individual and more freedom to create a treatment that meets individual needs. Often, insurance companies still reimburse a portion of the treatment for "out-of-network" psychotherapy, but even when they don't, many clients find that, in the long run, they prefer the added freedom and privacy.
