My Approach to Helping
In addition to 20 years of the comprehensive practice of psychology, I am also specialized in grief, bereavement, death education and counseling. I was awarded the Fellow of Thanatology by the Association for Death Education and Counseling ADEC. I am a survivor myself - my young husband died suddenly - and acquired additional training in grief therapy which led me to develop an innovative approach. I also do Crisis Debriefing for organizations, using the Critical Incident Stress Management model (International Critical Incident Stress Foundation ICISF). I am a disaster mental health volunteer for the Red Cross, a member of a Maryland State Disaster Response Team, and also work with first responders.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have been there myself and survived! Grief and loss, or, in other words, bereavement education and counseling, are my specialties. This does include supporting caretakers of a significant person with a terminal illness. You are not alone because I am both a professional and a peer. After a loved one dies or when watching someone we love change terminally, we often find ourselves acting, thinking and feeling differently from before. Based on my own experience and my additional training, I can normalize this for you and support you with learning to manage your grief or anticipatory grief. In addition, we work on managing your environment - which functions according to a different logic from yours - and approach how to build a future. But there is no button to push, and medication – unless indicated due to a prior condition – in most cases is not necessary and can actually hinder more than help. Please feel free to e-mail and/or call me, there is no obligation whatsoever.
