What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I'll admit it. I'm human. I'm also fellow journeyer on this road of life. Through my own hurts and triumphs and my own hills and valleys, I've come to an understand as a person and as a therapist, that we all need a safe space. We all need a space to be heard, to be understood and to be known. What I love about being a psychotherapist is being that safe space; to hear you, to understand you and to know you.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

It happens. We have a negative therapy experience and it makes us cautious and even resistant to the idea of diving into therapy again. That's okay. Therapy is based upon a good therapeutic alliance and when it is broken, as in any relationship, it takes time to build trust again. We'll take it at your pace and navigate the challenges it might bring together.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

My theoretical orientation is rooted in a systems perspective believing we are more than just our individual parts but we are comprised and made up of the systems we exist in such as family of origin, culture, race and religion amongst other things. I also use a psychodynamic approach and elements of cognitive behavioral therapy. For relationship counseling, I use Gottman and/or EFT.
