As a realistic optimist, I assume that my clients are doing the best they can with the tools they have, and that each has an inherent desire to improve. My approach is validating, supportive and goal directed, helping patients to increase awareness and personal growth. It is important for my clients to leave each session with a new insight or skill to practice outside the office. My goal is to connect with others in an authentic manner, forming a coalition to work toward health, self-fullfilment and happiness. A part of being authentic sometimes involves gently informing the client of what I am observing. I encourage clients to tell me if I have missed something or unknowingly offended them. Often my role involves being a consultant for locating various adjunctive resources as needed. A good therapist can be like a third base coach, suggesting to the player when to run and when to stay on base. However, it is the player who is up to bat and running the bases. I consider it a privilege to be allowed to sit with clients and hear their unique stories and to be included in helping to improve their lives.

More Info About My Practice

I am the director of DBT NETWORK OF NEW ORLEANS, offering comprehensive DBT programs for adolescents and adults. Visit our Facebook page, DBT Thought For the Day.

As a clinical hypnotherapist, I use HYPNOSIS to treat phobias, sleep disturbance and anxiety disorders. I am a member of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

We are part of a group, P.K. & ASSOCIATES, a fee for service practice. As a courtesy, we do file claims with patients' insurance providers so they can be reimbursed. All fees are due at the time of service. We are located just off St. Charles Avenue, with some off street parking. Our practice also includes three psychiatrists (both child and adult), early childhood, child, adolescent, and adult psychologists who do therapy as well as testing, two licensed clinical social workers, and a counselor/art therapist.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

An area of interest and expertise for me is working with clients suffering from emotional disregulation (borderline personality disorder), and nonsuicidal self injury (cutting). I am also trained in clinical hypnosis for treatment of anxiety disorders, performance and other problems. Parenting difficult children and adolescents is another area in which I am able to offer help and direction. I welcome adolescent and adult clients with eating disorders - using a team approach for effective treatment.
