I assist the young adults I work with to recognize their strengths, as well as understand their limitations in order to develop a realistic plan to reach their goals. We spend time reviewing what the client wants in their life and then develop small, achievable goals together. Included in the therapeutic process is recognizing belief systems and negative thought patterns that impact confidence levels, which are critical when it comes to believing in one self and obtaining important life goals. I specialize in young adult issues, which includes internet & video game overuse issues, academic and workplace struggles, transition to independence, isolation, fear of failure, and the anxiety-spectrum.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

We specialize in internet and video game abuse and addiction issues. We have developed a model of recovery, which includes education, abstinence for a period of time, as well as a technology reintegration plan to support our young adult clients to learn how to utilize technology in a moderate, healthy manner. We recognize how technology can enhance ones work and education experience, as well as how it can be detrimental if the young person is unable to use it in a moderate way. We have found through our practical experience and research that internet addiction resembles chemical addiction in the biological, psychological, and social sense. In addition, it is critical that the whole family is involved in the recovery process due to the importance of evaluating and changing their attitude and use to support the young person to do the same. Technology is impacting our ability to stay connected in our families.

Our therapeutic community of young adults is a supportive environment which enhances the recovery process. It provides each young adult with the opportunity to develop face to face social connection, which is a critical requirement for long term recovery from technology abuse/addiction issues.

Services to support young adults in their recovery from internet & video game addition/abuse issues; individual psychotherapy, group therapy, family therapy, community-based therapeutic coaching, academic coaching, parent coaching, and our supervised independent Living program
