Relationship problems, losses, and self-defeating patterns can be too difficult at times to cope with on our own. Talking about these situations with a non-judgmental therapist allows the space to explore these issues and find ways to solve, or manage, them.

My approach is low-key and respectful. Sometimes it helps to offer information--to stepfamilies or divorcing parents, for example. But more often, my work is to collaborate with you and work together to understand your life experience and your options. To be sure, therapy requires an investment of time, energy, and finances. But it is an investment in your LIFE. The potential for positive results--whatever that may mean to you--is tremendous.

I often work with couples, who tend to ask for advice and solutions. Most want to fix the relationship--now! But while planning date nights and working on communication techniques are always good ideas, most couples' problems go deeper, and show up in repetitive arguments, emotional distance, or even affairs. It takes time to sort these problems out. Couples who do the work reap the benefits.

Remarried couples with children typically encounter challenges unique to stepfamilies that very few people anticipate. It takes time, patience, understanding, and quite a bit of talking and hashing things out for stepfamilies to work reasonably well.

Parenting is a particular interest of mine. Virtually all parents want to raise their kids to become responsible, well-adjusted adults. The question is, how do we do that? How do we encourage responsibility while they are still under our care? How do we teach them to make good choices? How do we take care of ourselves as parents? Parenthood brings joy, but also challenges and frustrations, and most of us need some support along the way.

Whether working with individual adults, couples, or families, I consider it a privilege and an honor to participate in their lives in this very meaningful way.
