In my 23 years of mental health experience, I have worked with children and adults, individuals, couples and families to help them find purpose and meaning for their lives. Seeking help for your personal struggles can be very scary. I understand this process may be new and challenging for you, but I believe you are taking the first step to feeling whole again.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

My guiding theoretical principal is Bowen Family Systems This theory emphasizes the importance of becoming the person you were created to be, and the various factors that contribute to a person's anxiety, and unhealthy relationship patterns. The importance of one's family of origin can not be understated. The healthier a person is in their connections with others, the more fulfilling their life can be. I use a variety of other therapies to aid in the process toward health. Some of these include: cognitive behavior therapy, trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy, Play Therapy with children, motivational interviewing, and emotional intelligence.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Every person has the right to love, be loved and pursue happiness. The emphasis on therapy is health, courage and strength. Fear and stigma push people away for counseling, while a strong, trusting connection with a therapist is paramount to growth and change. Entering therapy is not a sign of weakness, rather, it is courage lived out. Shame draws people away from connection, while courage leads to human relationships that are both fulfilling and healthy.
