My approach is warm, open, honest and non-judgmental. I work with my clients to gain an understanding of where they are stuck. I then assist my clients in identifying their innate strengths as we explore solutions to reach the goals they set for themselves. I use a balanced approach of active listening, observation-making and respectful challenging as I honor the mission of each of my clients. I understand that often times change occurs when one feels safe enough to make those changes so I provide an authentic and safe environment and approach that will encourage you to make those necessary and often difficult steps towards hope, health and healing.

I specialize in working with families in general and specifically with families who have adopted or are fostering children. I have helped several families that are working to bond and attach with there children and I understand how challenging this can be at times. I work to SUPPORT the parents and help them to understand where their child/children are developmentally. I support them in identifying and using interventions that promote attachment and helps them to address concerns. I work with the child/children to learn to express themselves in a more effective way. I also work with the family to learn to hear one another and to meet the needs of each individual family member in order to form a more cohesive unit.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I believe that we all are connected and that in order to be a functioning society we have to be able to authentically love ourselves and love one another. I believe that through self-exploration we can begin to see our own honorable missions and learn to forgive ourselves and one another. With a new perspective we will then find healthier ways to relate to the world around us. I believe in the humanity of ALL people and the possibility of change. Through being a therapist I get to witness the process of change. This confirms for me that I am functioning in my God-given gift and contributing to the world in a positive way.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Often times people are under the impression that going to therapy suggests weakness. In my opinion it suggests the exact opposite. It takes a strong person to be able to examine themselves and reach out for help. To come to this decision suggests that one was willing to be honest with themselves and had the courage to do something different. This is not to be taken lightly on the part of the client or the therapist. I see therapy as an investment in oneself. With the right therapist, therapy may be challenging however it is proven to have a favorable return on your investment.
I counter this stigma with a warm, open and honest approach. I remain respectful by working collaboratively with my clients and understanding their goals. I take my process seriously and aim to provide a quality of care that confirms that although the decision may have been hard, you made the right choice.
