If you view your current discontent through a relationship lens then I might be able to help you. From over 20 years' experience, I have noted that most of my clients' presenting issues stem from a former or current relationship and often both. With the right approach, tailored to the special needs of the individual or couple, these wounds can be healed.

Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and Process-Oriented Psychology provide the theoretical core for my work. Each case is different, though. My clients' needs and their individual processes guide us more than theory ever can.

More Info About My Practice

Some choose to do open-ended therapy with me. We explore personal symbols, dreams and maybe metaphysics. We center our work around the evolution of your relationships, past, current and future.

Most of my work, however, is brief-treatment of a single issue. This could be: Making the Big Decision (to live together, to break up, to have a child, to...?) - Conscious Divorce - Stress Management during Custody Conflict - Single and Eager to Break an Old Pattern - Healing from an Affair - Grieving a Relationship and Moving on - New ways to Manage Your couple's Perpetual Problem - Cross-cultural Coping Skills - Healing Relational Trauma from Early Life to name some of my areas of expertise.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

A great deal of what I do is to empower clients to modify the narratives they tell themselves. So much of what happens to us is sourced in those narratives. Usually, when we feel a persistent discomfort with our lives, the current framework does not accurately reflect who we are or the likely outcome of our less conscious choices. Research has shown that a healthy shift in the story we are telling ourselves plays an important role in healing relationship trauma.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

Certainly there are disorders of the mind. But to me that word best fits people with serious problems in living. Overwhelming evidence from neuroscience tells us that everyone has some residue left from earliest experience. For most, this does not produce mental illness. I prefer to accept, without labels or judgment, each person's unique approach to life. Many so-called "disorders" are actually survival strategies that were once effective but have outlived their usefulness.

When a client shifts perspective and takes on a new, present-based pursuit of their needs, the session can shimmer with transformative possibility. These are beautiful moments.
