More Info About My Practice

I return all calls and emails promptly, as I know your time is precious. I will speak with you initially by phone to learn a little more about what is bringing you to therapy, which is always free of charge. The fee for the first appointment is $100, payable by check or cash, and runs an hour to hour and fifteen minutes. It involves more extensive information-gathering to help me better understand your needs. Thereafter, sessions run for fifty minutes at $90 each. I do use a sliding scale in my practice for lower family incomes.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I specialize in helping clients relate better with one another through identification of long-standing attachment and behavioral patterns, and development of communication techniques. I teach mind-body focus, self-talk, and evidence-gathering, and other coping skills to help alleviate anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and a wide range of other mental health issues. I support difficult life changes and loss, including changing parenting roles, elder care, divorce, illness, and much more.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

"If you will not learn, no one can help you. But if you are determined to learn, no one can stop you." Working with a therapist can be an enlightening and empowering experience for the individual willing to learn, to explore, and to reflect on their own thoughts, feelings, and behavior. The professional dynamic between a client and his or her therapist provides an objective and supportive environment in which true insight and growth can occur.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

I often call Psychotherapy "higher education for the soul." Though we are working to change it, there is still the idea that, somehow, participating in therapy and reaching out for professional help indicates shortcoming. I try to spin this for my clients, helping them to see their personal journey and therapeutic experience as something they have chosen for their own betterment, something valuable that they are doing for themselves. I believe, like a ripple in still water, new perspectives and insights can affect changes in many unexpected and positive ways.
