I have found that therapeutic healing happens over time in a relational context between therapist and client. As such I strive to create an environment that feels fully comfortable for us to be our authentic selves without a need to perform, nor shrink back. I am sensitive to a feeling of stigmatization in regards to working with a therapist. I find this especially true in working with adolescent boys and young adult men, who are deeply in need of guidance and counseling, yet don't want to be 'in therapy.' My focus relies on challenging growth yet at the same time honoring current circumstances and obstacles. Usually, I hold my sessions outside of an office space where our relationship feels real and not necessarily subject to the confines that often emerge in conventional 'therapy.' Because of this flexibility, I see clients in Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, and Marin. Often my work extends to the family in facilitating group dialogue around the presenting issues and underlying stresses that inevitably emerge as our work together unfolds.

My Role as a Therapist

My role is to witness you in your process. To reflect back what I hear from you, which often will feel like a challenge to grow. I am hear to support you in realizing your own dreams for yourself, and helping you actualize this potential. Though I will confront and challenge you, my motivation is in helping you grow, and will come from a place of care and compassion.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

I think many many people feel this way. It's important to consider that EVERYONE looks to people for guidance in one way or another. None of us are in this alone. There's no shame in reaching out for help or guidance. In fact, it's hard to imagine how one could grow and evolve without the help of therapists, teachers, mentors, etc; I have found therapy to be incredibly beneficial in my own life. To think of having never had the good fortune of looking at myself through the lens of a wise elder outside my life system brings out much sadness. The therapeutic process is a great opportunity and gift.
