Most people come into therapy when they have encountered something in their lives that has caused them distress. It could be a relationship, a life event, or the growing awareness that an old way of doing something isn't working anymore. I believe that engaging in the process of self-reflection produces positive results in all of these areas. My approach towards therapy places relationships at its core. Whether these are relationships that we cultivate with other significant people in our lives, relationships in the counseling room, or relationships with ourselves, these are what define us and how we see the world around us. Examining the conscious and unconscious attitudes we have embedded in these relationships gives us an opportunity to make better informed and more intentional decisions about how we want to nurture these relationships. I enjoy helping facilitate these kinds of conversations with couples and individuals, even when they take us to difficult and sometimes uncomfortable places. I have the capability of working in a variety of modalities ranging from a more cognitive, skills-based approach to a more creative, exploratory attitude, depending on the personality style and needs of the client. My practice has a strong focus on helping people with issues related to anxiety, depression, and trauma. I look forward to working together with you to face these challenges.

More Info About My Practice

I can offer clients a variety of options for payment: I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and HMO insurance plans, as well as Humana, and Gilsbar insurance. I can also see clients for an out-of-pocket fee of $100.00 per hour of service. Some clients find this option preferable to insurance, as it does not require that I submit a diagnosis to a third party. Please feel free to ask me any questions about my hourly fee or the kinds of insurance I can accept. I have daytime and evening availability to accommodate most schedules.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

People come into therapy for different reasons, and sometimes those reasons change over the course of treatment. In my view, psychotherapy is a powerful means of helping us gain greater insight into sources of our distress, and it helps us develop tolerance for difficult emotions and relationships. It means cultivating a personal practice and a reflective attitude towards our emotions, however painful they may be, giving us the ability to integrate those emotions into our lives in a healthy and productive way. This can lead us to a richer and deeper understanding of ourselves and others.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

I work hard to create a environment where it is safe for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. It is important to me that you feel comfortable talking about your experience in treatment, which requires a degree of trust and openness from both of us. This process involves mutual curiosity and exploration.
